Job Purpose:

The Kitchen Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, hygiene, safety, and efficiency. They supervise kitchen staff, coordinate workflow, monitor inventory, and ensure compliance with food safety regulations while supporting the Coffee Shop Manager in achieving operational and service excellence

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Supervise and coordinate daily kitchen operations to ensure smooth workflow

• Lead, train, and motivate kitchen staff to maintain high performance and teamwork

• Ensure food preparation, cooking, and presentation meet quality and company standards

• Monitor portion control, recipes, and consistency of food items

• Oversee hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety practices in accordance with regulations

• Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of food items (FIFO)

• Monitor food quality and take corrective actions when necessary

• Assist in menu execution and implementation of kitchen procedures

• Coordinate with the Coffee Shop Manager regarding operational needs and staffing

• Supervise receiving, storing, and proper handling of kitchen supplies

• Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or wastage

• Reduce food waste and control kitchen costs where possible

• Ensure kitchen equipment is used properly and report maintenance issues

• Assist in opening and closing kitchen operations

• Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety standards

• Handle operational issues during service and resolve them efficiently

• Perform other duties as assigned

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent; culinary education or certification is preferred

Experience:

5-7 years of experience in a kitchen environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations

• Solid understanding of kitchen operations and workflow management

• Leadership and team supervision skills

• Ability to train and guide kitchen staff effectively

• Knowledge of inventory control and stock management

• Strong organizational and time-management skills

• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

• Problem-solving and decision-making abilities

• Good communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work under pressure during peak hours

• Knowledge of portion control, food costing, and waste reduction

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and discipline

• Adaptability to changing operational needs

Physical Effort:

Standing and walking for extended periods, lifting and carrying kitchen supplies, and working during evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by café operational needs

Work Environment:

Fast-paced and high-energy kitchen environment requiring continuous supervision, coordination, and attention to detail, especially during peak hours
